Warehouse & Logistics

Conveyors for Warehouses and Logistics

Outside of traditional manufacturing and processing environments, the warehousing and logistics sectors represent one of the largest markets for material handling conveyor systems. With the rapid growth of e-commerce and distribution centres, demand for reliable warehouse conveyor solutions has increased significantly. Many people are familiar with large-scale parcel sortation systems used by operators such as Amazon and DHL, where automated conveyors handle thousands of items per hour.

In warehouse and logistics applications, powered roller conveyors and belt conveyor systems are widely used to transport cartons, totes, parcels, and pallets efficiently across long distances and between different levels of a facility. These logistics conveyor systems are often integrated with barcode scanners, weighing stations, and vision technology, allowing accurate tracking, identification, and automated sorting of products.

Modern warehouse conveyor systems rely on advanced PLC-controlled automation to manage routing, diverting, and throughput optimisation. This level of control improves operational efficiency, reduces manual handling, and minimises errors while supporting high-volume, time-critical distribution. Well-designed conveyor solutions also offer scalability, enabling warehouses to adapt to seasonal demand, business growth, and changing logistics requirements.

As distribution centres continue to evolve, conveyors for warehouses and logistics remain essential for improving productivity, safety, and overall supply chain performance.

Sortation Systems

Large logistic facilities see miles of powered roller and belt conveyor with bar code or QR readers that route the parcels and packages to their specific destination. The systems require complex PLCs to coordinate the mechanical equipment in order to do this. As warehouse space becomes scarcer the demand for using the empty space increases, so chain transfers, lifts and mezzanines route parts into restricted spaces. At the end of the sortation lines, telescopic belt conveyors do exactly as there name suggests and extend out into lorry trailers for easy loading and offloading.

Mezzanines

With storage space at a premium, mezzanine floors are increasingly popular for storing and or processing goods and parcel. Often in combination with large pallet racking they are fed by forklift truck or through special goods lifts. If pallets or trolleys are placed on mezzanines by FLT then there needs to be a break in the mezzanine barrier which in turn is a very critical health and safety risk. Mezzanine pallet or safety gates act as an either automated or manual safety barrier.
