In December 2018 Midland Handling Equipment won the largest order of its history to supply a new 406TC Power & Free Conveyor for JCB Cab System’s new factory in Uttoxeter. The Cab Systems department was being relocated from its existing site in Rugely to a new build on the A50, Uttoxeter.
Cab Systems manufacture the operator cabs for all the different varieties of JCB Excavators across the group. Our supply consisted of 2800m of conveyor track to take the fabricated cabs from the weld shop through a number of surface finishing processes prior to be off loaded for fitting out.
The track is at 2 levels to save space with the main delivery conveyor having a track height of 10m and the paint plant conveyor and process equipment underneath at 5m. Within the centre sat a dual chamber 60m long oven for dry off and paint curing. The oven track was set at 10m although entry and exit being at 5m from the paint plant.
To load & unload the cabs from floor level and again between the paint plant and delivery conveyor a total of 11 drop sections were incorporated, 7 external and 4 within the oven.
Within the scope of supply included 250 off special loadbars for a transporter flightbar attachment.
The design, manufacture and install took around 14 months and finished in February 2020. Since the final commission we have completed a number of track upgrades, most recently being adding an additional bypass lane into the paint plant so an additional booth could be installed to increase production firther.
