Floor Conveyors

Floor Conveyor Systems are handling solutions that operate at ground level. They are highly adaptable and come in a variety of configurations including belt, roller, and inverted chain systems. These systems are built with robust frame structures and can accommodate powered or gravity-driven mechanisms depending on the specific application.

You can transport your products either directly on a moving belt or on rollers, that makes the whole process more stable and efficient. Unlike overhead systems, floor conveyors support products from beneath. This is why they are ideal for operations where vertical space is limited or overhead access is obstructed. They also integrate well with other production equipment such as lifts, turntables, and automated transfer stations.

Where Floor Conveyors Are Used

Floor conveyors are widely used in logistics, warehousing, and general manufacturing environments. Belt conveyors and roller conveyors are especially common in distribution centers, allowing for the fast and efficient movement of packages and pallets.

Inverted chain conveyors, a floor-mounted alternative to overhead systems, are prominently used in the paint finishing industry. Their design allows for easier side access to products, great for surface treatment processes such as coating, curing, and drying.

These systems are also popular in heavy-duty or hazardous material handling. For example, in alloy wheel refurbishment and glass bottle finishing operations, where easy integration into heat- or chemical-intensive environments is extremely important.

Thanks to their strong construction and adaptable designs, floor conveyors can operate reliably in harsh industrial conditions involving moisture, dust, high temperatures, or corrosive substances.

Advanced floor conveyor systems can also include features like automated controls, chain transfer systems, and programmable logic (PLC) integration. It provides smooth synchronisation with modern smart factories and lean production lines.

Floor Conveyor Types

At MHEL, we offer three primary types of floor conveyor systems: Belt Conveyors, Roller Conveyors, and Inverted Chain Systems. Each of these matches specific needs and operational set-ups:

Belt Conveyors use a continuous belt driven by pulleys or drums at either end. The belts are made from materials such as rubber, PVC, stainless-steel mesh, or PTFE, depending on the application. They are versatile and suited for transporting items of various sizes and shapes. So they are perfect for packaging, logistics, and general materials handling.

Roller Conveyors consist of cylindrical rollers made of plastic, mild steel, or stainless steel mounted into a side frame. These systems can be either gravity-fed or motorised and are excellent for modular layouts that require integration with turntables, transfers, or inspection points.

Inverted Chain Systems are essentially overhead chain conveyors flipped to floor level. With the product mounted on top of the track rather than suspended beneath it, these systems provide superior side access. They are available as powered, free, or power-and-free types and are commonly used in finishing processes where precise control and heat resistance are essential.

Together, these floor conveyor systems form a reliable, efficient, and scalable backbone for a wide variety of industries—from logistics and packaging to automotive, finishing, and high-volume manufacturing.

Belt Conveyors

Belt conveyors consist of a continuous belt tensioned & driven between two drum or shafts at either end. Belts can be standard rubber, PVC, mild and stainless-steel mesh or honeycomb, PTFE etc.

Roller Conveyors

Roller conveyors generally consist of a plastic, mild or stainless-steel tube with bearing at each end then mounted into a side frame. These can be gravity-fed or powered, easily integrated with other products such as chain transfer & turntables.

Inverted Chain

Inverted chain conveyors are basically overhead chain conveyors turned upside down. Generally, they are at low floor level but can be mounted at height. Available as a standard powered, free or power and free system. With product being mounted on top of the track rather than hung underneath offers some products easier access to the side requiring processing.
